Chabad of Clarksville in Clarksville, Maryland, USA
Breastfeeding in the Sanctuary:
It is permitted as long as a nursing cover is used. There are many young families who attend, and most mothers breastfeed, making it a pretty common and comfortable occurrence.
Private Nursing Locations:
One may ask permission to use a guestroom for private breastfeeding, f needed. Nursing in any part of the public areas (this is a Chabad house, where people also live) is also welcomed.
There is no information made public about breastfeeding policy.
This is a synagogue within a home, which influences both its size and the sorts of accommodations that can be made available.
General Child Friendliness:
There are changing tables in a gender neutral bathroom. There is no place for stroller parking, or to leave children’s supplies. The service is held in a basement space that is difficult to access with mobility aids or strollers- there is a door that opens right into the space, but no path to that door.
Babies and children are encouraged to be in the main service if they want, but most often, kids old enough will stay upstairs under the supervision of some teenagers. There are plenty of toys around, and generally a children’s service is held.
This Synagogue received a rating of “Great, could barely be better- 1” out of 7, where 1 is the best rating, and 7 is the worst.
