Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston, Texas, USA
Breastfeeding in the Sanctuary:
It seems to be permitted. It has been done, generally with a cover, in the back of the sanctuary.
Private Nursing Locations:
Private breastfeeding can be done in the Bridal Suite, which is located between two sanctuaries. It is not fully private, as rabbis use the room as a pass-through. It contains couches plus a table and several chairs. It is unlocked on Shabbat and has windows, but the lights may not be on, necessaily.
There is no publicized information about the synagogue’s breastfeeding policy.
No one has voiced any complaints about breastfeeding with a cover to the respondent. Breastfeeding at other synagogue events is comfortable and unobjectionable.
General Child Friendliness:
There are changing tables in both the women’s and the men’s bathrooms. There s no particular stroller parking. There is no particular space for children’s supplies.
There is no information yet shared about the main minyan’s attitude toward children in the service. (Do you have information? Please fill in any gaps at: ) “In the lay-led egalitarian service, there is a love-hate relationship with children. They want to love children, but they want children to behave like small adults.”
This synagogue is so far unrated, as the information came from an early version of the questionnaire.
