Congregation Etz Chaim in Kew Gardens Hills (Queens), New York, USA
Breastfeeding in the Sanctuary:
It may or may not be permitted, but it does not feel welcome.
Private Nursing Locations:
There is no nursing room. However, one may use the rabbi’s study to breastfeed, although you need to get a key from the rabbi in order to do so- the room (located near the upstairs women’s balcony) is kept locked. Furthermore, “The room is in complete disarray. [The Respondent] needed to move stuff around and bring in a chair. ”
No information about breastfeeding policy is publicized.
General Child Friendliness:
There are no changing tables available. Strollers are generally left in a long corridor next to the entrance of the synagogue. The is no place to keep a child’s needed supplies.
This synagogue received a rating of “Lousy but tolerable for whatever reasons- 5” out of 7, where 1 is the best rating and 7 is the worst.
